Baseball has Spring Training Camp, and now, so does HRBike.
On Saturday, March 25, members of the bike club will hold a FREE class for the community to teach bike basics to cyclists of all ages and backgrounds. The camp will be held at West Middle School in Tullahoma from 9 – 11 am.
HRBike President Tim Harrison says, “We’ll conduct a very basic maintenance class (Bicycle ABC’s, how to inflate a tire, how to change a tube) as well as an on-bike skills class (how to shift gears, how to do hand signals, how to perform obstacle avoidance and how to do a quick stop).”
Andy Nelius, HRBike’s League of American Bicyclist (L.A.B.) instructor will conduct the on-bike skills class where he will instruct bike riders on techniques that will improve bike handling and safety. These techniques are useful for new as well as experienced bike riders.
A few years ago, Nelius taught a L.A.B. 101 class to interested club members that included classroom instruction and on-bike skills training (see photo above). Tim and Andy plan to use several of the basic concepts from the 101 Class in our Spring Bike Training Camp.
One particular concept from the L.A.B. 101 class that will be taught is the A.B.C.s, a way to remember what to check on your bike before taking it out for a spin. HRBike members will teach how to inflate a tire and how to change a tube.
We are excited to provide this FREE service to the community. Please feel free to invite folks you know to the class. And remember to bring a bike and a helmet to give the on-bike skills test a try. Hope to see you there.
